Unless the Lord sanctions a thing

The phrase “Unless the Lord sanctions a thing, you might not be able to succeed in it” is a Biblical proverb that speaks to the idea of divine guidance and intervention in human affairs. The phrase is rooted in the belief that success and prosperity come not from our own efforts alone but also from the favor and blessing of God. This idea is a central theme throughout the Bible and is particularly evident in the Old Testament, where the Israelites looked to God for guidance and protection as they journeyed through the wilderness and eventually settled in the Promised Land.

The concept of divine guidance and intervention is a recurring theme throughout the Bible, and it is particularly evident in the Old Testament. The Israelites, who were God’s chosen people, were led by God through a series of trials and tribulations as they journeyed through the wilderness and eventually settled in the Promised Land. At every step of the way, the Israelites looked to God for guidance and protection, and their success was ultimately dependent on his favor and blessing.

One of the most famous examples of this divine guidance and intervention is the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments. According to the Bible, Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt and into the Promised Land. However, in order to do so, he had to first receive the Ten Commandments from God on Mount Sinai. The story goes that Moses climbed the mountain and spent 40 days and 40 nights in communion with God, during which time he received the commandments on two tablets of stone. When he descended the mountain, he found that the Israelites had grown impatient and had begun worshiping a golden calf. In his anger, Moses smashed the tablets and had to return to the mountain to receive them again. This story is a powerful example of the importance of divine guidance and intervention in the affairs of humans, and how success is ultimately dependent on God’s favor and blessing.

Another example of this theme can be found in the story of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho. According to the Bible, Joshua was chosen by God to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land after Moses died. However, before they could do so, they had to conquer the city of Jericho, which was heavily fortified and defended. God told Joshua to have his army march around the city for six days, with the priests blowing trumpets made of ram’s horns. On the seventh day, the Israelites were to march around the city seven times, and then the priests were to blow their trumpets and the people were to shout. When they did so, the walls of Jericho collapsed, and the Israelites were able to conquer the city. This story is another powerful example of how divine guidance and intervention can lead to success, even in seemingly impossible situations.

The concept of divine guidance and intervention is also evident in the New Testament, where Jesus is portrayed as a healer and miracle worker who is able to perform feats that are impossible for ordinary humans. According to the Bible, Jesus was able to heal the sick, raise the dead, and even walk on water, all through the power of God. His teachings also emphasized the importance of faith and trust in God, and he frequently told his followers that their success and prosperity were dependent on their obedience to God’s will.

One of the most famous examples of Jesus’ teachings on this subject can be found in the Sermon on the Mount, where he gives a series of teachings on how to live a righteous and fulfilling life. In Matthew 6:33, he tells his followers, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” This passage emphasizes the importance of putting God first in our lives and trusting that he will provide for our needs.
